With a lineage stretching back more than 400 years, English Old Ale emerged shortly after hops took hold in England and became a revered predecessor to today's barrel-aged beers. Traditionally matured for long periods in oak, these strong ales developed deep, layered character and the complex, wine-like qualities that defined the style.
